In Cannabis Education, Edibles, Health, Hemp, International News, Lifestyle, Medical Marijuana, MMJ, Plant Science, Research

Summer is a busy time – which is why it’s that much more important to take some time out to put your feet up and enjoy a great book in the shade. There are so many new books about cannabis coming out lately that it can be hard to “see the forest for the trees.” So we compiled a list of the 10 books on our reading list this summer – the ones we keep coming back to for reference, for fun, for inspiration, or simply because they’re beautiful.

Even better, we’re giving away the top book on our reading list to two lucky patients! The Cannabis Health Index is a great resource for learning how to enhance the therapeutic benefits of cannabis using other alternative healing modalities. To enter the giveaway, just visit one of our dispensaries during the month of August (we’ll be drawing the two winner’s names at the end of the month).

The Cannabis Health Index: Combining the Science of Medical Marijuana with Mindfulness Techniques To Heal 100 Chronic Symptoms and Diseases by Uwe Blesching

This in-depth reference combines evidence-based insights from more than 1,000 cannabinoid and consciousness studies to present a convincing case for the powerful healing effects of medical marijuana. Written by a former paramedic with a PhD in alternative healthcare, the book shows that the subtle shifts in awareness commonly observed in cannabis-using patients vastly contribute to these compounds’ therapeutic potential. Organized by condition with eye-catching ratings of cannabis efficacy for each symptom along with recommendations for use, and sidebars that suggest related mindfulness-based practices that enhance the body’s own ability to heal, the Index brings clarity to the process of making informed decisions about cannabis as a treatment in an informative, user-friendly, and practical format.

Cannabis: Evolution & Ethnobotany by Robert Clarke and Mark Merlin

A comprehensive, interdisciplinary exploration of the natural origins and early evolution of cannabis, highlighting its historic role in the development of human societies. Cannabis has long been prized for the strong and durable fiber in its stalks, its edible and oil-rich seeds, and the psychoactive and medicinal compounds produced by its female flowers. The culturally valuable and often irreplaceable goods derived from cannabis deeply influenced the commercial, medical, ritual, and religious practices of cultures throughout the ages, and human desire for these commodities directed the evolution of the plant toward its contemporary varieties. As interest in cannabis grows and public debate over its many uses rises, this book will help us understand why humanity continues to rely on this plant and adapts it to suit our needs.
